Overview
More effective than shaving, male waxing is a hugely popular hair removal treatment, targeting areas such as the back, chest, and the intimates.
We use two types of wax for male waxing, Hot and Warm. The aim of waxing is to remove hair from the root underneath the skin. The hair follicle needs to go through another cycle of re-growth which can take up to 6 weeks, unlike shaving where hair can grow back in days. Waxing is an efficient solution that is much kinder on the skin than shaving. There’ll be no stubble rash, and the results will last for longer so you don’t have to worry about regrowth.
The Benefits Of Waxing
- Smooth, Silky Skin that Lasts
Waxing removes hair from the root, so it takes a longer time for hair to grow again- anywhere from 3-8 weeks, depending on the individual speed of hair growth. This means your hair free, smooth skin lasts much longer and you can go for that holiday on the beach and bask in the glory of your enviably smooth and glowing skin without having to worry about body hair showing up in the meantime. - No Skin Damage
In contrast to other methods of hair removal like hair-removing creams and shaving, waxing does not cause cuts, pigmentation, or badly smelling skin. No harsh chemicals are present in wax, so, the skin is saved from their damaging effect. - Finer and Softer Body Hair
The hair that grows after waxing is of a finer and softer variety, not rough and hard as after shaving. And the really good thing is – waxing does not cause an ugly stubble as seen in just a day after shaving. - Double Function of Hair Removal and Exfoliation
Waxing leaves the skin soft, smooth and rejuvenated because it also removes a layer of dead cells from the surface of the skin, and thus, indirectly serves the function of exfoliating the skin as well. - Waxing Diminishes Hair Growth
After repeated sessions of waxing, you will notice a much sparser hair growth, and hair growth may even stop eventually. In contrast, shaving stimulates hair growth, because it removes hair at the surface only, not at the root.

Before Your Waxing Treatment
Lycon hot wax can bring out hairs as short as 1mm but please aim for hair to be at least 5mm long for maximum results.
For warm wax treatments please ensure that the hair to be waxed is a minimum of around 7mm – 10mm so that the wax will take to the hair effectively.
If you have had a close shave or recently used any hair removal creams then please wait for a few weeks before your male waxing treatment. You may not get a smooth finish and waxing recently shaved hair can be quite painful.
Male waxing is a very safe treatment however it cannot be done where there are varicose veins, skin diseases, cuts and abrasions, warts or hairy moles If you suffer from over sensitive skin, peripheral artery disease, peripheral neuropathy or diabetes you should consult your G.P or a health professional before being waxed.
Waxing After Treatment Advice
Freshly waxed skin needs to be looked after for 24 – 48 hours after treatment regardless of the size of the area that has been treated. The hair follicles will remain open for up to 12 hours and heat will be retained in the skin, therefore, to avoid any complications the following advice must be adhered to:
- No hot baths or showers for 24 hours
- No sunbeds or sun exposure for at least 24 hours
- Wear loose clothing after treatment
- Do not apply perfumed products for at least 24 hours
- Do not apply make-up over the waxed area
- Avoid touching the area that has been treated
- Do not swim for at least 24 hours
- Do not exfoliate for at least 24 hour
If you are unfortunate enough to suffer with ingrown hairs it is best not to try to squeeze them out of the skin as quite often this can lead to infection of the hair follicle. We would suggest exfoliating the areas you have waxed twice a week to prevent ingrown hairs, you may also like to try applying a suitable solution to help raise the hairs out of the skin. Further advice and products are available at the salon.
FAQs
What’s The Difference Between Hot Wax And Warm Wax?
Warm waxing involves spreading a thin layer over the skin in the area for hair removal and a paper strip is placed on top and removed with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth. This removes the wax along with the hair and dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth and silky. This method is quick, and ideal for larger areas of skin such as the back, chest or legs.
Hot Waxing – advanced polymer technology makes it effective for the removal of all hair types, anywhere on there face and body: from coarse, strongly rooted hair to fine, downy fuzz. The wax shrink-wraps around the follicle and can remove hair as short as 1mm. All our Hot Waxes can be re-applied on the same area many times without the wax feeling too hot and without skin trauma or irritation.
What type of wax will be used?
For general male waxing on the body, we would use roller wax, this is a form of warm wax. Its also known as strip wax and removed with a paper or fabric strip. A great method of waxing for the back, legs, arms, and parts of the chest. For sensitive areas such as the intimate area or underarms we would use the hot wax, this grips the hair at the root and excellent on coarse hair.
Does male waxing hurt?
Yes, a little bit, but not as much as you would expect. Using good waxing techniques and the best waxes available it can be fairly painless. Some clients take painkillers about 30 minutes before their treatment.
Should I trim or shave my hair first?
It is best that you let us trim any excess or long hair for you, as we will trim the hair to the best length which will ensure that the wax will grip the hair and its short enough to make the waxing as comfortable as possible.
Will I get spots or ingrowing hairs?
Follow our guidelines and use the recommended products on your skin. We also retail excellent exfoliating products that are great aftercare for male waxing treatments, keeps your skin clean, soft, and helps avoid ingrown hairs.
