Product Benefits:

180 grit – Used during a manicure or pedicure to shorten or shape the natural free edge of the nail.

220 grit – You can use this grit as a buffer during a manicure to eliminate ridges from natural nails and make the whole surface even and smooth prior to nail polish application. It is also a good grit for filing the free edge of soft fragile nails due to its low corrosive surface.

Key Features:

The numbers refer to how course the grit is on the nail file surface. If both numbers are the same then both sides have the same grit- if the two numbers are different then both sides have different grit.

For example, a 180/180 grit file means both sides are the same and that there is 180 grit on 1square cm. A 100/180 grit file on the other hand, will have one side with a coarser grit than the other.

Knowing that we can now clearly understand which file is sharper and which one softer:

The higher the number, the softer the file grit;
The lower the number, the coarser the file grit

Directions:

Fingernails
Filing can weaken nails if done incorrectly ie. use a back-and-forth sawing motion, stick to one direction.
File side to centre, where you go on the side of the nail to the tip at a 45-degree angle, then the other side to the tip, and then finish at the top of the nail. Try to avoid filing too much of the sides as this could cause tears. Use a light stroke and ensure you soften the corners to prevent catching.
Never file straight after showering or bathing, wet nails break more easily.

Toenails
If they are quite long, we would recommend trimming prior to filing.
Cut straight across. The nails shouldn’t dig down on the sides. Guide the clippers straight across the nail of each toe and avoid cutting nails into a curved shape.
Leave nails a little long, don’t cut nails too short, as it’s another reason ingrown toenails occur. It can also leave your toenail susceptible to infection — plus, it hurts!
Cut nails when they’re dry, not wet. Wet nails may be likely to tear, bend, or not cut smoothly because they’re softer when wet. Cutting dry nails will give you a cleaner, smoother cut.
Make a few small cuts. Don’t try to clip each toenail in one shot. Make a few small cuts across your nail.
Then file.
If you prefer to file your toenails (or just to smooth them out after you clip them), don’t drag the file/emery board back and forth. Gently move the nail file in one direction across the top of your toenail until smooth and the appropriate length. Don’t round the nail off as this can cause the nail to in-grow, but you can smooth the edges to prevent catching.

Caring for your file:

Simply brush the dust off using your ordinary manicure brush
Wash the file with warm water and a hint of soap
Spray or soak with disinfectant liquid.

We would recommend our sanitising sprays. Remember that every file, no matter how good and strong, is not going to last forever and after a while, you’ll have to change it. The moment to do so is when you notice that filing takes you longer than usual and instead of filing you’re more likely to buff a nail.
