Questions & Answers

How long do the 'Amazing Lashes' last?
I personally have had them applied and they have lasted over a month however they then do start to look quite sparce but the effect is still there.
We do recommend infills every 2 weeks to keep them looking their best and fullness.  We offer a discounted infill if you do come within the 2 weeks, to help you maintain them.  Images of the 'amazing lashes can be found in our gallery.

What is the difference between Acrylic & Gel Nails
Apart from the 'Bio Sculpture' gel which is very kind to your nails, and can help 0make them stronger and healthier, it really comes down to personal preference.
Acrylic and Standard Gel are made almost of the same compounds.
Acrylic is a mix of a liquid called monomer and a powder.
Gel, is thick like honey, but the same mixture as acrylic just in a suspended state, that is activated with UV light.
Gel nails are favoured in Salons as they have little or no odour.

Why can Acrylic be soaked off easier than Gel?

It depends on the gel.  We use 'Bio Sculpture' for our gel nails which involves an easy soak-off system and a lot kinderto your nails and skin.
However with some other gel's this isn't possible.
When gel or acrylic cures, it forms a network of cross-linked monomer chains that looks like a grid.
When acrylic cures the spaces between the chains are bigger then with gel. The acetone molecule is able to get between those chains and begin to break them down. With gel the network is so tight that acetone or other solvents have a hard time penetrating, therefore finding it difficult to dissolve.

How often should you have a facial?
It depends on your current skin condition.
If you have acne or congested pores, then you may benefit from a weekly/fortnightly facial until the condition has cleared up. Once your complexion starts to clear or you’re in maintenance mode, a facial every 4-6 weeks, could be just what you need. It takes approximately 28 days from production of a skin cell for it to travel up through its layers and reach the surface where it is shed.

I’ve over plucked my eyebrows, what can I do?
There are 3 things you can do.
1. Cry a lot and hope nobody notices and put it down to experience.
Don’t panic…
There are two good ways of correcting this problem, which does happen to most.
1. Using a small eye brush, take a coloured eyeshadow and lightly brush over the area.
2. Using an eyebrow brush, (the bristly end), run a matching eyeliner along the bristles and then brush through your eyebrow. This technique is also good to emphasize eyebrows after applying foundation for an evening make-up.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who needs to wear makeup at all times, even at the beach. Can you help?
Unfortunately there aren’t any miracle products that can hold up to everything, but there are some products and treatments that can help.
Tinting lashes and brows will help emphasize eyes, freeing you from eye-darkening mascaras.
A course of facials before you go will help clear your skin and give it radiance, leaving it nourished and ready to take on the sun.
(Please note facials do not provide any SPF protection, sun cream must be worn)

I have my bikini line waxed quite regularly but find that I get quite a few in-growing hairs, is there anyway of stopping this?
It cannot be stopped, but it can be helped.
Ingrowing hairs can be caused by the hair follicle snapping just under the skins surface and by skin growth stopping the hair from pushing through naturally, causing the follicle to curl back on itself.
By alternating your knicker style, i.e. from briefs to French Knickers, and wearing loose clothing pressure and friction can be relieved from the area, easing the redness.
Regular exfoliation before waxing and daily moisturising before and after helps keep the skin clear and supple.
Holding a hot (not too hot) compress against the ingrown spots for 10 minutes three times a day softens the skin and will help the hairs work their way out.

Where did Hopi Ear Candling Originate, and how do they work?
Ear Candles have been used for hundreds of years in many different cultures including Mediterranean and Latin American countries. Historical roots can be found among the peoples of Ancient Greece, the Siberian Prairies, Asia and from the Native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona.
A hollow tube (the ear candle), made with flax, beeswax, honey, Camomile, Sage and Hypericum is lit at one end and gently placed in the ear as you lie, relaxed, on your side. The Ear candle works in a physical way creating a pressure and a vibration of the rising air column through the natural movement of the flame, which gently massages the eardrum. The warmth of the flame increases blood supply to the area of the ear while the vaporised herbs and essential oils flow down the hollow candle to bathe the whole ear canal. The increased blood flow stimulates lymphatic elimination of excess fluids, mucus and toxins as well as helping the removal of excess or compacted earwax. It's also helpful for earache, migraine and headaches, amongst other things. It is also very relaxing.

I have just started wearing foundation, but heard somebody comment that it looked like a mask, what can I do?
What a lovely comment to hear, don't worry its happened to all of us.
If the foundation is not blended into the neck properly then it can appear as if you are wearing a mask, as it will show a difference in colour. The other reason for showing is if you have not got a good colour match between skin tone and foundation then the 'mask' will be more apparent.
There are a number of ways to get a good colour match:
- Apply the chosen foundation to your jawline, if the colour blends perfectly, this is your colour match.
- This sometimes is not an option in your local 'Boots', therefore you can use the skin tone on the inside of your arm. This area is very similar, if not a perfect match to the colour of your skin on your jawline/neck.
- Beauty Counters within Boots or your nearest Department store will offer a free beauty consultation service, where they will give you a personal colour match and can also show you new make-up looks.
** Be aware that if you go on holiday or apply self-tan, then your foundation may not match, be warned :) **

Is it ok to ask your Beautician to extract blackheads during a facial?Oh yes, that's why most of us get into this job, ha ha!
On a serious note, please don't feel embarrassed about, blackheads, zits, and pimples.... whatever you like to call them....
Facials are the perfect time to help extract the little horrors!
Steam or Hot Towels (my favourite) are a great way of softening the skin and starting the extraction process. A trained beautician should only need to apply slight pressure around the area for them to jump out!
